How the Morpheus Facial Works
As a form of microneedling, Morpheus8 uses tiny microneedles penetrate the skin’s superficial layers at depths of up to 4mm for the face and 8mm for the body. Simultaneously, RF energy is delivered deep into the connective tissues. This dual process activates your body’s healing response and promotes rapid skin rejuvenation through collagen synthesis. Over the next four to six weeks, your body increases collagen and elastin production, two crucial proteins responsible for skin firmness, smoothness, and tightness.
To maximize results, you should skip caffeine, alcohol, and painkillers in the days leading up to your treatment. Morpheus8 is safe and effective for most skin types and poses a low risk of post-treatment hyperpigmentation. Aside from its incredible rejuvenating capabilities, it boasts long-lasting results and no downtime. On average, most patients notice impressive results within three weeks of treatment and enjoy the effects for up to one year or longer. However, your collagen production, lifestyle choices, skincare regimen, and whether you sunbathe or smoke can all affect duration.
How Long Does Morpheus8 Take?
The length of a Morpheus facial depends on numerous factors, such as the size of the area(s) you are treating, the number of areas you are treating, and your treatment plan. The treatment generally takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Treatment could take longer for larger treatment areas such as the stomach, buttocks, or thighs. The entire appointment may take upwards of 2 hours. This includes the time you will need to wait for the numbing cream to take effect, about 45 minutes. Additionally, treatment time will increase for individuals who wish to have additional passes to areas with more significant skin concerns.
How Painful is Morpheus8?
Generally speaking, Morpheus8 is not the most comfortable treatment; however, it is tolerable with the right kind of preparation. Before your treatment session, your provider will apply a topical anesthetic to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed. You may also be given ProNox, a type of laughing gas, to keep you relaxed during treatment.
You can also manage any potential pain or discomfort during your treatment by taking a break from using skin care actives such as tretinoin and retinol. During your treatment, you may experience a slight prickling sensation from the microneedling, but the needles are extremely tiny, and excessive discomfort is not likely. You may also feel heat from the RF energy, but patients generally tolerate this well. Treatment may be more intense for some individuals who wish to have additional passes and target certain areas of the face or body more aggressively.

What to Do After Morpheus8
The downtime after Morpheus8 treatment is generally minimal. However, many patients opt for a Friday treatment to allow for a few days of recovery at home. Your recovery experience will also depend on your individual treatment plan. Post-treatment, your skin will be very red and tender. In the coming week, your skin may flake, peel, break out, and become tight or itchy.
We recommend these aftercare tips to protect your skin and allow it to heal properly:
- Keep the treatment area clean
- Use ice or a cold compress on the treated area
- Cleanse with a gentle cleanser after 72 hours
- Sleep with your head elevated
- Avoid smoking for at least 24-48 hours
- Avoid fish oil, caffeine, and alcohol for the first three days
- Apply a high factor SPF every day (at least SPF 30) starting on day two
- Wear proper coverage when outdoors (ie sun visor or a wide-brimmed hat)

How Soon Can You Exercise After Morpheus8?
Exercising increases blood flow and body temperature, which can increase swelling and redness in the treated areas. Additionally, the production of sweat can cause bacteria to form in the treated area and raise your risk of infection and irritation. You will want to refrain from physical activities that elevate your blood pressure and heart rate for the first 2-3 days post-treatment, including:
- Running
- Weightlifting
- Pilates
- Yoga
- Aerobics
- Cycling
- Climbing
- Sexual activity
Holding off on these types of strenuous activity will reduce your chances of bruising and quicken your recovery time. After the first 72 hours, you are free to get back to your usual activities.
