Docere’s Ultimate Winter Skin Care Guide

Docere’s winter skincare guide is your ultimate guide for winter skincare do’s and don’ts. As the winter months approach, cold weather comes along with it. Skin is often susceptible to harsh conditions such as wind, snow, rain, and colder temperatures, leading to dryness and peeling. Winter weather can take a serious toll on skin- if you don’t know how to properly care for it. Keep in mind the top six winter skincare tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing this winter season.

Moisturize- But Don’t Over Moisturize.

Moisturize twice daily with a cream or serum that fits your skin type. It’s a common myth that you should moisturize several times a day during the winter to avoid drying out. Be aware that over-moisturizing can cause clogged pores and potential breakouts. But be sure to moisturize with your daily beauty routine- once in the morning, and once before bed. Try the Eight Greens Whip Moisturizer, a Docere favorite.

Switch Up Your Skincare Routine
There are a few things to keep in mind regarding your winter skincare routine:

  • Use a layer of serum underneath your moisturizer the morning (we love the Blackberry Pore Refining Serum)
  • Don’t use burning hot water when washing your face
  • Wash your face in the morning and before be
  • Switch to a thicker, more protective moisturizer with sunscreen

Adjusting your skin care routine accordingly with the weather will improve the quality and softness of your skin that much more. A layer of serum adds an extra layer of organic, clogless protection, and using water that’s too hot to wash your face can lead to dryness. Aim for lukewarm water. Lastly, do not skip your morning and evening routine of washing your face, then moisturizing.

Get Monthly Facials Facials

Facials not only offer exfoliation, mask and overall rejuvenation of your face but will provide you with a truly deep clean that will make a difference in your winter skin. Docere offers a number of facials including a Jet Peel, Fruit Acid Peel, and our most popular Deep Cleanse Facial, which includes a fruit acid peel to kill bacteria and exfoliate, a deep cleansing mask using products catered to your skin type, as well as extractions.

Don’t Forget About Sunscreen

Although we don’t normally associate sunscreen with cold temperatures, just because the winter months are here doesn’t mean there isn’t a high risk of UV light hitting and damaging your skin. In fact, cold weather months and bright days can cause sunburn equally as severe as a hot summer day would. Ensure that your moisturizer has a good dose of sunscreen in it. We love the caramel Latte Tinted Moisturizer, which boasts an SPF of 25.

Cuticle Care

The extreme levels of temperature change in the winter (ie. moving from frigid outdoor weather to warm indoor hear) can significantly decrease the moisture levels in your fingernails and cuticles. Treat your cuticles to intense hydration daily during the winter months to keep your hands soft and supple. Use a balm, cuticle cream, or hand moisturizer to do so. Exfoliate

Dead skin cells on your face lessen the absorption of moisturizers and serums. Proper exfoliation will give you benefits such as

  • Smoother makeup application
  • Lessen dead skin cells
  • Brighter skin

Bottom line- exfoliate no more than once per week. Doing so will ensure you give your skin the intense deep exfoliation in needs without over-drying. By following Docere’s Ultimate Guide for Winter Skin, you can be sure that your skin will maintain a moisturized, healthy glow throughout the winter months to come.
